The media loves to overdramatize everything. Technically, they are correct, but U6 was 8.0 only last February. Go back to the mid teens, U6 was much higher. U6 was much higher in the mid 90s too.

The trend going forward will be interesting, because the new variable is the extent that deportations, closed border, and denied/revoked visas impact the size of the labor force.
