No sense creating jobs that you can't fill.
I agree.
1.2 million immigrants are gone from the U.S. workforce under Trump, preliminary data shows
This is what concerns me as it relates to the impact it has the economy.
The vast majority of these undocumented immigrants were working. The jobs didn’t go away, the labor force went away. The jobs are still there, they just can’t get filled (so why advertise for them?).
And the impact is broader than just having jobs with no labor force available. Being on the lowest rungs pay wise, most of these undocumented immigrants (after withholding taxes) spent 100% of their pay in the United States.
The jobs most undocumented immigrants had weren’t glamorous, but that doesn’t mean they were unimportant. They picked the food we ate, built homes, worked in construction, and much more.
The jobs will remain unfilled and they aren’t spending their money here in the U.S.
This will have a negative impact on our economy.
Ideally, we should have better control on who comes into our country. Immigration should be handled in a humane manner (I’m embarrassed I have to even mention this). And we should have a path to citizenship for those that work and obey the law. It’s in our DNA.
I know, they say I’m a dreamer.
