It's amazing to me how ingrained the notion that having an illegal workforce is somehow something we just have to accept. - Dope

True, we can't have an illegal workforce. So the solution to me, is that the workers presently doing those jobs obtain a legal status that allows them to be here, work here, and go back and forth to Mexico easily. Of course if they commit a serious crime, then their card is revoked and they are deported either forever or based on the crime for a substantial time before they can re-apply.

We have work to do to set up such a system but that is an outcome that solves the labor supply problem and gives the law abiding guest worker the peace of mind they deserve. At some point, we can come down hard on Employers who still employ illegals, but this will allow a window for the workers to get legal before the employer crackdown occurs.
