Most Trump supporters have different priorities, policy preferences, and beliefs than you or I.
Sure. But it still seems they are lying to themselves, fueled by Twitter and Facebook and Truthsocial propaganda (and sources like FOX) that allow them to believe their own lies. We see it echoed on this very board, presented as "truth".
You and I (and other like-minded folks) don't lie to ourselves (mostly). We know what Biden screwed up, for example. We know we're progressives (in many instances). They lie to themselves about being fascists (not all, of course...but his hard-core supporters are).
I tend to think the divide comes down to sources. The left -generally- looks to more reliable sources. The right has convinced itself that media is in some vast conspiracy to disinform, and -ironically- turns to sources that have set out to do exactly that. FOX had to almost a billion dollars because of it. Certainly there are some loony-left source out there, but few of us rely on them.
Today, you can choose whom to believe. There's always going to be some nut that has a Twitter account that has some outlandish theory that strikes a chord and/or agrees with someone else's preconceived notions. Confirmation bias**.
There's Goofus/Gallant, and then there's child sex rings in the basements of pizza parlors that don't even have basements. (As one example.)
**Note that the one area where there is some overlap is vaccines. Some lefties are convinced that some righties are correct about vaccines and autism (disproved decades ago), or some pharma industry plot to pad their bottom lines, or whatever. We see the dramatic rise in cases of measles, and even deaths from measles, that were unheard of 30 years ago.
