didn't Canada fully pay for the bridge? ( the new one, for commercial traffic ). I'm a long ways away so haven't kept up with it.
Yup. iirc, it was originally a 50/50 venture. But Matty kept throwing wrenches into the works in Lansing, trying to kill the project. The Canadians ended up paying for the entire thing. iirc, the Canadians even paid for the Customs plaza on the US side. Why do the Canadians want the bridge so badly? Right now, all the bridge traffic drives on surface streets through downtown Windsor. The Howe bridge is a bit downriver, so the Canadians were able to cut a parkway through to connect it directly to 401.
