I will not allow this bridge to open until the United States is fully compensated for everything we have given them, and also, importantly, Canada treats the United States with the Fairness and Respect that we deserve. We will start negotiations, IMMEDIATELY. With all that we have given them, we should own, perhaps, at least one half of this asset. The revenues generated because of the U.S. Market will be astronomical. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

So all the freight continues to use Matty's bridge, fattening his heir's pockets. I wonder how big of a bribe they paid Trump the Great and Perfect for that "favor". I know it was a bribe, because, if it was about Canada, God on Earth Trump would close the Ambassador and Blue Water too. I wonder if God on Earth Trump could even find the bridge on a map?

Yup. iirc, it was originally a 50/50 venture. But Matty kept throwing wrenches into the works in Lansing, trying to kill the project. The Canadians ended up paying for the entire thing. iirc, the Canadians even paid for the Customs plaza on the US side. Why do the Canadians want the bridge so badly? Right now, all the bridge traffic drives on surface streets through downtown Windsor. The Howe bridge is a bit downriver, so the Canadians were able to cut a parkway through to connect it directly to 401.

Last time we were on Matty’s Ambassador Bridge, it was 2017 and we were on our way to Cape Breton. At the top of the bridge, halfway across, traffic was stalled without moving more than a few yards for at least ten minutes. We sat there, over a hundred feet over the water, and I had a close up view of the rust eaten girders holding that bridge up. It was less than encouraging. I vowed we’d never cross that bridge again.
We’ve been to Canada four times since then and purposefully drive to Port Huron and cross over on the Blue Water bridge.
We’ve been watching the construction of the Gordie Howe and were awaiting its completion.

Some years ago, the city of Windsor was complaining, loudly, about the chunks of steel and concrete that were falling off the bridge, onto streets and private property on the Canadian side.
Matty's logic for opposing the Howe was laffable. He insisted the Howe was redundant, because there is already a bridge at Detroit. Then Matty was asked "so, why are you so hot to build a new bridge?". Answer was "because the Ambassador is 80 years old". When the "Gateway" project was built, to connect the Ambassador to I-75, decades after 75 was built, the US side was built to align with a new bridge that Matty wanted to build next to the old one, so drivers need to negotiate an S curve on the US side, to get from the new approach, to the old bridge. Matty bought up a bunch of houses on the Windsor side, tore them down, and built a ramp to connect to his proposed bridge there too.

Canada can build cars for Mexico and other countries. Not the US.
But Canada can stop exporting a wide variety of products needed in the US. Steel, aluminum, wheat, corn, oil, and even electricity.

We have a tendency to repair bridges only after they have collapsed. Another thing Congress doesn't seem to want to do is fix infrastructure.

He's trying to shock MAGA, by saying the Chinese will take away their circuses. Canadian players in the NHL outnumber USians 407 to 267. Take away the Canadians, and the quality of play would probably fall, a lot. MAGA would freak even more if he told them the Chinese would take away football, but Canada has it's own football league, which does not mingle with the NFL.
