does it become palatable if Iran agrees to split the proceeds with the United Stated, even though such an arrangement would move the United States into the category of “pirate state”.

Trump has been the Pirate King, since he started blowing up speedboats, and seizing tankers, on the high seas.

Recall, in his presser Monday afternoon, he floated the idea of the US charging tolls, by itself, rather than splitting the take with Iran.

Typical "JC". First priority is making himself richer.
