An interesting piece on Boeing. John Oliver.
He posits that Boeing's downhill slide started with the acquisition of McDonnell Douglas. The part of the McDD culture that was absorbed at Boeing was stock buybacks and cost cutting (in part to pay for those buybacks). As a result, Boeing quality has suffered greatly, and they aren't able to get planes out on schedule (even "releasing" a mock-up plane at one point, because the actual plane wasn't even ready). Plus not disclosing stuff to pilots, rushing without checking, etc. If Boeing employees wouldn't get on one of their planes, it gives one pause.
Meanwhile, I've flown a few Airbus aircraft the past few years, and they are very nice. Obviously, I can't speak for any missing bolts. But none of their doors have popped-off in mid-flight.
