While he was president, Orange Jesus tried to implement a crack down on TikTok, only for the move to be struck down in the federal courts as an overreach of White House power. Up until about a couple of weeks ago, he was against TikTok operating in the United States, calling the app "a national security risk."
But earlier this month Trump met with Republican mega-donor Jeff Yass -- whose hedge fund, Susquehanna International Group, took a stake in ByteDance in 2012 estimated by the Wall Street Journal last year at about 15%, with Yass personally owning 7%, valued at $21 billion -- and Yass started writing checks to the tune of $10 million to the Super Pac arm of the Club for Growth.
And just like that Trump did an acrobatic 180 and is now dead set against banning the app he had called "a national security risk."
Faster than you can say "democracy for sale," other republicans have also done 180s.
Vivek Ramaswamy has said TikTok is “digital fentanyl” to Americans and urged lawmakers to ban the app entirely now opposes the ban.
Nancy Mace, who called TikTok a Chinese spying tool and said that "we should ban it from all government devices," now says, nope, "it's not the government's role to ban apps."
Trump also flip-flopped on Anheuser-Busch after a top Republican lobbyist for the company announced plans for a Trump fundraiser.
IOW, wave millions of dollars in the face of Orange Jesus and he'll do whatever you ask and get his cult to change their tune as well.
But sure, Donald "This Presidency For Sale" Trump is so much better for America than the guy producing record jobs growth, generating 800,000+ manufacturing jobs, rebuilding the nation's highways, bridges, airports, and railways, who cut child poverty in half, expanded NATO, ended the pandemic, and led the country to the fastest, strongest recovery from that pandemic in the G7.
