At this moment of time it's quite possible.
People said in 2016 that Trump will never win the nomination. They didn't see that the energy, anger, bottled up frustrations was what he was catering to if only with words.
I feel the same is happening on the Left - -in a tribal society both sides will pick extremes. The Right went MAGA and it is quite possible the Left will go AOC, Mamdani, and even Gavin who pretends to be Centrist but he's skilled at walking the fine line. Sadly the Dems I'd actually *vote for* - Beshear, Shapiro, Emanuel to name a few --- i sometimes fear they will be the Jeb Bushes of the 2028 primary though it's too too early to judge this.
All i know LM is this: Coastal Progressives helped create the MAGA vote. Trump harvested it.
I fear OUR side continuyes to create the Mamdani-ish vote. If medicaid gets tough on people. IF ObamaCare gets priced out of reach for people ---that right htere is gonna chase them iunto the arms of AOC, Mamdani, et cetera.
As i've said many times. Most of us on TMF - a financial investment board maybe don't relate.
BUT - the new American Dream has been for awhile "I paid my bills this month and i didn't get shot at". And that - is going to give rise to the AOC types.

They said that about Trump. And guess what - Marco, Cruz, Jeb, Christie, etc split the traditional Repub vote---allowing Trump to win the nomination.
Imagine if centrist dems split that vote....and AOC wins it with math - like Trump did.
And if they country is hurting....they'll kiss AOC's butt and vote for her---she'll carry a few swing states for sure.
I'm sorry LM, I feel our side better smarten up. The people like so much of trump's "80%" issues ---but I feel if they lose their health insurance, they'll vote for Bin Laden in 2028 if they thought it would help them.
