The week's question
In March 2025, in the thread "Re: OT, out", Umm asked the members: "Do you think it is because America is made up of magical soil that makes businesses based in America magically profitable?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Jimmy Kimmel says James Talarico interview won't air after FCC threats

Jimmy Kimmel says that his interview with Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico will not air on TV after President Donald Trump's Federal Communications Commission (FCC) threatened Jimmy Kimmel Live!, ABC, their affiliates, and local stations.

Now that Trump is president, Kimmel said that "his FCC has threatened me, threatened our show, threatened our network, ABC, our affiliates, our local stations - based on simple, traditional editorial decisions, guest bookings it would seem they don't like." He said that "out of consideration for our local stations, especially our ABC affiliates in Texas who would have to deal with this nonsense," his interview with Talarico will not air on television and be posted to YouTube instead.

Kimmel's announcement arrives nearly six months after former Late Show host Stephen Colbert claimed lawyers for CBS barred The Late Show from airing an interview with Talarico, citing threats from the FCC. "He was supposed to be here, but we were told in no uncertain terms by our network's lawyers - who called us directly -- that we could not have him on the broadcast," Colbert said at the time. CBS denied they prohibited the Late Show from broadcasting the interview.
