Both the accused and The People have a vested interest in a speedy trial. And this is why.

It took too long to get a Special Counsel investigation into Trump started, and then Trump played the courts to drag the process out as long as possible. This process has exposed multiple weaknesses in our justice system. I have zero hope that those will be addressed any time soon.
