This question makes me wonder if you’re aware of the fact that the U.S. does NOT take on 100% of the global security load for NATO countries.
Explain to me then how many freedom of the seas patrols the European navies go on, then.
It gives us global power projection, military operations burden sharing, economic security, intelligence sharing, need for fewer nuclear weapons floating around, AND, it’s a lot less expensive then if we went it alone.
You're missing the point. We *are* at it alone. NATO has been reduced to us, the Poles, the Baltic States and a couple of others. Right now the 2 best NATO "allies" aren't even in NATO at all (that would be the Ukrainians and the Israelis).
OG NATO countries not named Poland and a few others have lost the plot. They're merely landlords for some of our bases, nothing more.
