Ok so on Spring Vacation with family at one of our usual go-to places when in mood for a week of just sitting in front of the ocean -- which is pretty much what we like. And for me, toss in some good meals - I'm good! We've come here for years.

So me and DS are on balcony in the early evening and Wifey and DD do their usual beach walk and dinner as a Mommy-Daughter thing. Wife texts me that there's emergency copters and news helis and I only then realized - yeah- now I realize there's been constant helicopter noise combined with waves.

That same morning (yesterday) she told me there's a "rip current" and I went on my rant about ---I dont go in the ocean past ankles. Jaws is in there, I dont belong there, end of story. Same with family - we don't swim in the ocean though we love looking and listening to it.

Turns out a kid went swimming with buddies. One kid didn't return and an emergency search was on. Holy shit I'm seeing it right in front of me.

I hated to be morbid but my reaction was I can't imagine a survival if the copters and boats haven't seen him yet and I was really hoping they'd find - you know---so at least family KNOWS, versus having to spend life wondering and well, yes, they found-=--- and it was the worst news. And I'M NOT BLAMING ANYONE - THIS SHIT HAPPENS IN LIFE AND COULD BE ANY ONE OF US...... but WTF PEOPLE - - we're in a world where we don't understand "no I can't do that". When the fuck did dinner and a movie become so bad?????? Zip Lining, trail hiking, mountain this and kayak that. Rainforest adventures. People think they are superhuman and just 'hanging out' isn't good enough.

EVERYTIME i come to the beach resort I laugh: The god-damn people just HAVE to cram their asses to sit around.... "the pool". I mean PHUCK! You had money for hotel and airfare. You can't tell me you don't have a pool at home, the neighborhood, or a local pool facility. So they PAY to come to the ocean but sit at the pool BUT.....instead of swimming in "the pool" some of them say - hey, let's go fuck with Jaws and Jellyfish.

Not saying live in a bubble. And yeah we've done some fun risks and this summer - though I'm apprehensive we'll take kids on helicopter Alaska tours, etc. But seriously people, relax. Read a book. Eat a sandwich. Jerk off. Watch some girl on girl. Talk to friends. Go to the mall. Go to a museum. Come, go, lay, stay, or pray. But why must we do the ocean, the diving, the mountains, the trails and all that shit - not to mention all the money they spend on "equipment" and then bitch about "debt" and "cost of living"

A friend of mine always says "you're such a pussy" and I proudly say --- yeah, I am what I eat.

Sorry I'm a bit shaken. The age of the kid (12) sort of hits home. I stopped reading but either they were here for vacation, or some basketball thing.
