I just discovered this. It was a TV series a few years ago. It leaves Netflix in three weeks. It's only 3 seasons. From what I gather, it was Bruce Lee's concept (which became
Kung Fu, not starring Bruce Lee because TV execs didn't think American audiences would accept a Chinese lead). This version is in SF Chinatown, is gritty, lots of violence and sex. Copious, but not really gratuitous. It is part of the story.
But what is striking me is how similar the situation with the "coolies" is to what we are seeing today. Everybody throwing their problems on the immigrants, blaming them, lynching them. There's a lot more to the stories, but this does feature prominently. I did a little checking, and there actually was a Chinese Exclusion Act back in the 1880s.

I recommend a view, if you can handle some gore (bladed weapons are messy) and sex.
