He does try to pretend, kinda sorta sometimes, but he's pretty bad at it. Or none of this war would be happening in the first place (character matters!). It's caused a lot of worldwide pain and suffering, and accomplished...what? As Talarico said, some are paying with their lives or the lives of family members.
What Trump does give a shit about is being constantly in the news, and it does that for him. And lets him feel even more like a bigshot because he can order bombings (of more people that he doesn't give a shit about) and act like a bully. And historically wars have often given boosts to President's approval ratings. His are abysmal, so I suspect he's trying to get a bump there. It's not happening though.
