I will settle for respect over popularity. Especially if their superficial popularity is purchased with trade deficits that continue off into infinity.

This. The left values popularity as they need it to feed the dopamine centers in their brains. The sad thing is that they're willing to overlook the long term interests of the United States just to feel better about themselves.
