Agreed. Ours was 30 years ago. At that time they said the best approach was a fiance visa, and get married here within 90 days, then file for adjustment of status. Could have married in PI, but we were told a spousal visa takes longer.
No sympathy for this guy. Some sympathy for the wife. Filing for asylum was ok. Getting married without the proper visa, not great. Being forced to sleep on a concrete floor is criminal.
I thought they were targeting the rapists and killers. That's what we were told, though the more intelligent among us knew that was BS.
