Senator Bill Cassidy, a gastroenterologist, was the deciding vote in committee that made it possible for RFK Jr to become secretary of HHS. Without his vote, the nomination would have died in committee.
Instead, Americans will die.
Literally.
Measles, a previously mostly eradicated childhood disease, has been given a new life to sicken and kill American children. And now, today, a federal vaccine committee has decided in its wisdom that the Hep B vaccination given to newborns is unnecessary except when their mothers are infected with the virus.
More changes to vaccine policy are likely follow in the next months, as the committee goes on to review all childhood immunizations. The meeting’s presenters and at least some of the panelists are known for their anti-vaccine views and are close associates of Mr. Kennedy.
For many public health experts, the vote also marked the end of trust in the C.D.C. and its vaccine advisers.
“Today is a defining moment for our country,” Michael Osterholm, a public health expert at the University of Minnesota, said. “We can no longer trust federal health authorities when it comes to vaccines.”Congratulations, senator Cassidy. Perhaps your grave marker will refer to you as Dr. Death.
