Lots of talk these days about those two battalions (1500) of the 11th Airborne Division being placed on alert for deployment.
Why are two army battalions being put on alert for deployment to Minneapolis? The state of Minnesota has enough National Guard troops (15,000) that can be called up for service. Why parachutists? Why, indeed?
Indeed!
Perhaps there’s another purpose. The 11th Airborne are troops are:
1. Trained in Arctic combat, highly mobile,
2. with capabilities that include dropping into hostile bases and securing them
3. Based in Anchorage, Alaska only 2800 miles from Nuuk, Greenland
Perhaps they haven’t been been notified for service in Minneapolis after all.
