along with the Iranians, want oil at $400 a barrel.
Why would Iran want oil at $400? That would only motivate people to switch to other energy sources. Through the 70s and 80s, there were flox of alternate energy projects going in the US, from coal liquifaction, to shale oil. OPEC kept their price just below where the alternate sources would become economic, or people would use extreme conservation measures.
Somewhere in my joke file, is a cartoon from 74-ish of an Amtrak ticket office being mobbed in numbers never seen before, because people didn't want to pay for gas to drive a long distance.
