This is a good video of how the GPP transformed China from one of the world's poorest countries in 1950 to the world's largest economy today.

What I like is the strong motivation of the Chinese to build industry as a necessary first step to social development (improvement of life) and the political oppression of the Chinese by the United States, Europe and Japan before 1950. I liked the way he explained that way.
I didn't know that we invaded China in the early 20th century - until I saw this video. We demanded higher reparations than their economy could produce. It reminds us of what Britain did to Germany before World War II to provoke German political reprisals. This presentation revealed many facts about China that are not often read in our own stories.
Given its global significance, I think it's important to understand it from their perspective.
