No. The funds were payment for South Korean purchases of Iranian energy products, primarily condensate, and have sat idle in two South Korean banks.

Thanks for the correction, commonone. Yes, the $6B was owed to Iran by South Korea, not the US, and was frozen due to US sanctions on Iran. Biden released the freeze in order to secure the release of 5 Americans wrongly held as prisoners in Iran.

The larger point, that we both agree on, is that Republicans should not use this as a talking point to claim that Biden inadvertently "funded" the Hamas attack. The money did not come from US taxpayers, and has been monitored to make sure it could only be used for humanitarian purposes.
