Well, there's an argument that "antizionism" without qualification is antisemitic. It's an argument that Jews - unique among all the peoples of the world - do not have legitimacy to want self-governance of a nation in the area to which they are indigenous. It's okay for Palestinians to want their own homeland (or the Indians or Pakistanis or Japanese or the Danes or whomever), but not Jews. Independence movements throughout history have legitimacy - or at least are not to be condemned - except for Jews.
I agree. And it’s troubling that this conflation is on the rise.
I would say that there are reasons for such sloppy thinking-
Some folks conflate the policies of Netanyahu with Israel as a whole, and have made the false generalization: Because of Netanyahu’s murderous policies, Israel no longer has the right to exist.
Some (more on the right than the left) say that Jews as a people are devious, cruel and can’t be trusted. Therefore, Israel has never had the right to exist. This voice on the right has been saying this for decades.
Albaby, I’ll say that your argument about indigenous people fails on several points.
First, unlike most arguments made for the preservation of the rights of indigenous groups, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict boils down to two groups, both claiming indigenous status. And each has claims to that status that go back centuries, even millennia...... and each group has been busy trying to disprove the claims of the other.
Second, those who have grown tired of those competing claims and recognize that the resolution of the problem may well be intractable, have been proposing a “two state solution” for decades. I believe you are among these, as am I.
But on the far left, we have the chant “From the River to the Sea”...... and from the far-right, uncritically pro Israel contingent we have “Palestinians are a fake people and their deaths mean nothing to me”.
As far as I see it, a two state solution is the only outcome that will put the brakes on the madness and allow some semblance of peace to grow.
The jihadists need to be reined in by the Palestinians. The settlers and ultra-orthodox need to be reined in by Israel.
And any argument that begins with the sentiment “My group has primacy and should rule over the other group” should be immediately challenged.
That way lies fascism.
