Hurray for inertia, and lack of imagination, and lack of courage. Let's keep muddling along because someone won't like the change.
Minimizing the impact doesn't make it go away. The amount of dislocation and disruption required to reduce health care spending by half would be enormous. There would be severe suffering by a lot of people who would have their livelihoods - and source of health care - upended.
I think the tendency of progressives to portray this as a trivially simple exercise whose solution is blocked by nothing more than evil insurance companies (and sometimes drug companies, rather than an enormously complicated problem of path dependence with significant consequences to a very large number of people, makes finding a solution more difficult. I understand the politics behind it, but I think it's damaging to the cause in the long run.
