Steve,

You're not quite there yet.

Trump was not promising to illegally leak anyone's tax returns, including his own, for years.

You miss the whole point when you mush everything together in order to "win" the discussion.

You can certainly criticize Trump if you think he made a promise in a campaign and didn't keep it. Let's all agree, at least for the sake of the point I am trying to elucidate for you, that he totally lied and reneged on a binding campaign promise to release his tax returns.

Since it's not in any way illegal for politicians to tell lies during political campaigns about their future intentions, the "remedy" for the lies is simply that you don't vote for that politician. And obviously you can exercise your first amendment right to furiously criticize the lying politician as much as you care to do.

That state of facts does not give some unknown employee at the IRS who politically disagrees with Trump, and thinks he is a liar, to violate federal law and unilaterally determine that it is OK to "leak" Trump's tax returns.

The two things really have nothing to do with one another, except that both happen to involve Trump, and since Trump is always the bad guy, you leftists have to twist everything so that you "win" and Trump "loses."

This is one of the big reasons the Left has a lot of trouble winning over moderate Republicans and Independents, and even hanging on to their traditional blue collar base.

It's not O.K. for someone at the IRS to have illegally leaked Trump's tax returns because that employee was angry that Trump violated a campaign promise to voluntary release them.

That's not due process, that's not the rule of law, that's not justice.

The leaking of Trump's tax returns (if that actually happened) is a violation of everything that the Left claims to represent.

That hypocrisy/illogical dichotomy is why the Left has problems and doesn't seem to understand WHY it has problems with large parts of the electorate.
