Kevin O’Leary Says Utah Locals Opposing Controversial AI Data Center Must Be From Chinese Government

Kevin O’Leary, who is backing the development of a massive data center in Utah, believes the people who are opposing it are from the Chinese government.

The Shark Tank investor, 71, recently appeared on Fox News and asked, “Who would want us to stop building our electrical grid? Who would want to stop us from having compute capacity to develop AI? Which adversary would want that? There’s only one: it’s China.”

https://currently.att.yahoo.com/news/articles/kevi...

If it isn't the Islamic boogyman we are being threatened with, it's the "Red Chinese". O'Leary is only one year younger than I am, so he grew up in the same Commie hysteria atmosphere I did.

Who would want us to send Trillions to money heaven, chasing blue sky projections, that experience tells us are wildly optimistic?

O'Leary is trying to make everyone else "The Next Biggest Loser" by getting "free ride" on the early "bail me out" express when the project fails.

Tie HIM into the project such that he has ZERO bailout choice unless he is the sole owner. In other words, everyone else gets "paid in full" before O'Leary. Hey !! IT'S A GREAT INVESTMENT !! HE SAID SO !! Or is he a secret Chinese agent trying to bankrupt the USA?

Our house sits just 5 miles south (as the crow flies) from the big Oracle data center being built in Saline township.

We’re far enough away that the 24/7 lighting doesn’t bother us. And the hundreds of gravel trucks a day that rumble down Michigan Avenue don’t bother us much.

But what is the added stress on the electrical grid going to do to our rates? And what will the millions of gallons of water per day that they will pump from the ground do to our water table?

The legal and economic power held by large corporations simply roll over local and mostly rural jurisdictions.

The 900+ acres of prime farm land will never be reclaimed. After being graded, and covered with gravel and concrete, the land will never again produce anything but bits and bytes…… and with the over-leveraged and indebted corporations building these monstrosities, even the bits and bytes produced may be short-term.

“Progress” is increasingly being defined by the techno-masters of the universe who have their own vision of “progress”.

And that definition takes no account of the number of lives jobs, and land that it increasingly destroys.

Money talks. The rest of us walk. And “the rest of us” is pretty much “all of us”, except for the tiny fraction of 1% who assume they have the right to run the world.

But what is the added stress on the electrical grid going to do to our rates?

We ratepayers will pay for the added capacity, up front, because DTE is guaranteed a profit. iirc, ratepayers in Georgia had to pay, before Votgle 3 and 4 ever came on line. Then the data center goes BK, so DTE has a lot of surplus capacity. And guess who gets to pay for that? The water should not be an issue, They should be able to recirculate the water, unless that is a "burden" that hurts their profits. Keep in mind, water bottling companies pull a million or more gallons from the Michigan aquifer, per day, for only a $200/year permit payment to the state, because "must not burden the JCs".

And that definition takes no account of the number of lives jobs, and land that it increasingly destroys.

We Proles are expendable meat, just like the Native Americans, who used to populate this area.

A big fat lie. The man is a scammer and full of shit.

There is huge local opposition.

With one major difference: there are a lot more of us than there are of them.

Not then. The government didn't include Native Americans in the census in 1820, so historians need to WAG that number.

from the net sifter:

In 1820, there were 7,452 white settlers counted in the Michigan Territory,

historians estimate that there were roughly 8,000 to 15,000 Native inhabitants living in the Great Lakes region at that time, primarily from the Potawatomie, Ojibwe (Chippewa), and Odawa (Ottawa) tribes.

In other words, within the realm of being relatively evenly matched- by population.

In terms of armaments and organization…… not so much.

Create your own water bottling company, pay the $200/yr permit fee to the state, and START PUMPING YOUR OWN WATER. Have your neighbors all do the same thing. Watch the companies start to twitch when there is more than a billion gallons PER DAY to be removed. Nothing permits EXISTING permit holders from drawing a billion gallons PER DAY under their current permits, so "fair competition" for that water will be a fun fight for all.
