"DTE, the electric utility here in metro Detroit, wants to get in on the "AI boom", by building a huge data center near Ann Arbor"
quite a few stories on utube from disgruntled citizens both living near the new build out of the data centers, and also electric customers in the region of the data centers.
Customers say their electric bills go up. Citizens in proximity to the data centers
say that the compounds give off an enormous amount of light pollution, they hear
a perpetual low level noise that wasn't there before, and they also fear that their
ground water that many rely on will be pumped dry for the cooling needs of the data centers. And the local politicians are a rubber stamp for whatever the corporations
behind the data centers want, concerns of local citizens are very low on the totem pole.
I was in Ann Arbor over the weekend, there is a lot of green space where a DC could be
placed, but it's a pretty large ( to me ) metro area, will the citizens voices be
heard over all of that noise the money promised from the DC's makes ??
