The city of Beaufort, South Carolina – roughly 40 miles north of Savannah – is working to roll out stricter regulations on plastic bags as well as a ban on foam products.

In late 2018, Beaufort County, the city of Beaufort, and other municipalities in South Carolina implemented a ban on single-use plastic bags, pushing local retailers like Walmart to use thicker plastic bags instead through a clever loophole.

These bags, branded as “reusable,” were treated just the same by consumers and continued to pollute the local environment, according to advocates.
