A provision of the USMCA deal says that Canada can’t make a deal with China.
Not quite correct, but it does ensure a free trade deal would be expensive to enter.
The 2 clauses are:
1) The member must notify the other two parties at least 3 months before starting negotiations, and give them access to the text before signing
2) The other two parties can terminate USMCA with that member and replace it with a bilateral deal between themselves, on 6 months’ notice.
It also only applies to a formal free trade agreement — it doesn’t restrict ordinary trade, investment, or other economic dealings with China.
I believe Carney’s side of the argument because, at least for now, he hasn’t told any lies that I’m aware of.
On the other hand, Baghdad Bob has more credibility than Trump.
