And, like it's namesake, we don't need it. We need a frigate design, a new destroyer design (Arleigh-Burke is getting old, though they did just release a mark3 version, I believe), and possibly some heavy cruisers.
I love the old battleships. There is something so nostalgic about them. But we are in an age where toe-to-toe ship battles aren't going to happen. That's what battleships were built for (plus shore bombardment, but mostly to take out other battleships). The navy is not clamoring for a new battleship design. They want lighter, faster, missile-carriers (VLS), now with anti-drone capabilities (new requirement that has come out of the Ukraine war). We need a battleship like we need the Felon (i.e. we don't).
**Also, note that ships are not named for living persons. Only dead ones. Does this mean the Felon is planning to be dead soon?
