You may have the last word. Make sure you repeat for the 9,432nd time that the Orange Man Is Bad. Remember to leave out any possibility that Carney may have been wanting to do this all along. And don't leave any room for nuance that cozying up to the EU might not be the greatest move that Canada ever makes.
I'm not sure why you take this approach with me. I don't merely recite "Orange Man Is Bad," nor do I flatten your criticisms of other politicians as just "Joe Biden is Bad" or whatever. These are specific criticisms of Trump, and indeed are criticisms that you have voiced at least some acknowledgment of (as with the foolishness of Trump's Northern Ireland statement). I genuinely try to engage in the sort of factual, evidence-based dialog you claim to want from people.
As for your other two points, whether Carney wanted to do this all along and whether it might also not be the greatest move for Canada aren't dispositive of the issue, and don't excuse the blunders that Trump has committed with Canada. Trump's aggressive and hostile approach to Canadian relations have created a political environment where any government would be pushed towards this move - and even if this is something that Carney might have wanted to do, Trump's treatment of Canada and the UE made it vastly easier, if not inevitable, that this would happen. And just because this might not be the greatest move for Canada doesn't mean it's not a terrible development for the U.S. This very well may be a classic "lose-lose" situation where both Canada and the US are worse off because of the deterioration of their relationship.
