"Some of us remember some of Tim's stories from when he was in mechanized infantry, in Germany."
Tim was ( is ? ) a great guy. If I remember right, he grew up in the bush, north of Thunder Bay, Ontario. I've been up there, it is a rugged landscape, with some crazy winter weather. Tim grew up tough as nails. For some reason, he reminded me of Gordie Howe, and all those other great Canadian hockey players who grew up in the middle of nowhere and became the best in the world at their chosen craft.
I hung out with some Black kids growing up/ young adult. One was a Golden Glove boxer. State champ in Michigan. He told me a story about his boxing club going to Windsor and fighting against Canucks from all over the Country. My buddy, despite being a State Champ, admitted to getting his butt kicked by a Canadian white boy. I laughed when he told me the story, asked him if he had ever watched an NHL hockey game before, lol, told him them boys dive body first at 100mph slapshots, they ain't gonna be scared of no American Black kid talking Ali badass
jive about scared white boys. My friend laughed his butt off at that.
