I realize this is quite premature but may I request that Jim starts up the bottom detector machine to make sure it’s running.

As a long time New England resident I can tell you that there’s nothing worse than when the first big winter arrives and you find out that the snowblower needs servicing. :)

LOL... my New England snowblower is just completing its 36th year of operation (i.e., even older than some of the tools in this group ;-) and thankfully with new oil, a new belt every other year and once in a while a replacement part it keeps coming back - like I hope the bottom detectors do with refreshed issues and volume data.

Using old school indicators, $SPX's RSI is under 30. I add a small amount when this happens. Sometimes it works very well, but sometimes like 2020 the decline continues. I would then add more at the next dip below 30.

Looking at some charts i'm guessing RSI is commonly used as a bottom indicator by many robots also. Might still be useful.

A simple short-term bottom detector from a number of years ago is discussed in this thread:

The general idea:
- The NYSE bullish percentage index must go below 31
- Wait for it to rise 6% from its low

So, if the $BPNYA drops to 25 the buy signal would occur at
25 x 1.06 = 26.5

Zee provides backtested returns using QQQ.
