Re: The FT looks at Trump's New World Disorder

The week's question

In March 2025, in the thread "Re: OT, out", Umm asked the members: "Do you think it is because America is made up of magical soil that makes businesses based in America magically profitable?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Article is behind a wall, so couldn’t read it.

But the best explanation I’ve heard regarding Trump’s relationship with Ukraine and Zelenskyy is that he has a personal grudge against Zelenskyy because Zelenskyy wouldn’t play ball on investigating Biden.

On the other hand, Putin knows how easily Trump can be manipulated, so he has undoubtedly promised Trump something in exchange for Trump parroting the Russian line on the Ukraine war. Combine that with Trump‘s hatred for Zelenskyy and we’ve got all you need to know about the current situation. Trump wants Zelenskyy – and by extension Ukraine – to pay a price for failing to investigate Biden.

Deal making, retribution, and revenge explain the vast majority on Trump’s behavior.
