That doesn't mean you didn't get anything of value - you got to eat the food!
"Food" is fungible. Instead of Guatemalan grown bananas, you can eat USian grown strawberries or peaches, and the $2B keeps circulating in the USian economy. The thing I have noticed in the local produce department is bananas seem impossibly cheap, given the shipping, vs the fruits and berries that grow locally here in Michigan. My grandfather had about 4 acres of "garden". We always had apples, cherries, plums, peaches, berries, carrots, lettuce, corn to eat, and not one bit of it imported.
