As far as Iran's intentions:
-Their longest stated range on any of their missiles was ~2,000km.
-Their Khorramshahr-4 was fired at Diego Garcia. Two were fired; one failed in flight and a US Arleigh Burke shot the other one down.
How far is it to Diego Garcia from southern Iran? 4,000km.
To put it into perspective: Move that launch 400km north in Iran and they can hit London and Paris. To me that seems like a threat that's more imminent-y than not.
That missile carries an 1,800kg warhead. Plenty big enough to carry a big boom on its own; the bomb used in Hiroshima only had about 60kg of fissile material in it. The rest of its 4,000kg mass was the gun-tube firing mechanism and bomb casing. Modern nukes drive several high density rods at high speed into the fissile core. Plastic explosives have the kind of energy density to drive the rods fast enough to initiate a reaction, meaning that a similar nuke wouldn't need to weigh nearly that much.
BTW that was the attack that convinced 10 Downing Street to allow the US to fly missions from its bases in the UK.
You people hate Trump. You people think that Trump and anyone who voted for him ought to be thrown in a deep dark hole with the entrance sealed shut and all the oxygen pumped out. Fair enough; life ain't a popularity contest.
But you folks need to understand that no matter how big of a globalist, groveling, sniveling democrat party communist you elect to sit in the White House that the US will always have enemies that want to do the same thing to you.
Iran is one of them. This notion that Iran wasn't working on anything is beyond ridiculous.
