I asked everyone in my immediate vicinity if they had been paid to be there. Immediate laughter, and/or incredulous responses, on all occasions. Many were white-haired retiree types who had all they could take, sort of like myself. Many veterans, many past and present feds, many fired up students, people of all stripes. Zero paid.
