Anyone feel that is good middle ground?

There should be no penalty for criticizing anyone or anything. God, religion, the Felon, Congress (really, any elected officials), Kirk, Maddow, Miller, Fauci, Obama...no limit. Criticizing as long as it doesn't fall into legal libel or slander, of course.

There should be no legal penalty for speaking your mind. There may be personal/social penalties (e.g. your wife divorces you, your friends shun you, you get "cancelled", etc). But no legal penalties are appropriate. That's the 1st Amendment, or at least part of it.
