The week's question
In March 2025, in the thread "Re: OT, out", Umm asked the members: "Do you think it is because America is made up of magical soil that makes businesses based in America magically profitable?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

So why didn't the Morons build the new bridge? THEY don't pay for it (“The bridge will actually be paid for by the folks who are using the bridge”). A FREE BRIDGE--and they refused to do it. As stated: MORONS !!!

The Moroun family wanted to build a new bridge, right next to their old one. When the old bridge was, finally, connected to the nearby freeway, the approach was built to align with the new bridge, with an S curve to connect to the old bridge. The Moroun family also bought up some houses on the Windsor side, tore them down, and built an approach ramp on that side, to meet up with their proposed new bridge. Look on Google Maps satellite view, and you can see the approaches that were built. All the while, the city of Windsor kept saying "we don't want all that bridge traffic going through Windsor city streets". But, like typical "JCs", the Moroun's attitude seemed to be "we know everything, we are entitled to what we want". So, the Canadian government stepped up, and offered to build the bridge a bit downriver, away from downtown Windsor, where it could be easily connected to highway 401, and Interstate 75.

Tim and I used to have a lot of fun going back and forth about whether that new bridge would ever open. Seems my confidence in the level of corruption in the US was justified.
