But, as soon as Trump got what he wanted from "Bibi", the "doing it for Israel" cover story, he threw "Bibi" under the bus, and started working his agenda of stalemate, to keep the Strait closed.
As suggested before, we will have a more clear view in six months, or a year.
I don't think we will. We'll know whether the Strait remains closed for a long time or gets re-opened, but that won't tell us whether the closure is what Trump wanted to happen or whether it's something that ended up happening despite what he wanted. As I've said, I think Trump absolutely wanted a quick and easy victory, and just failed to achieve it. He didn't want to be in this position, but he doesn't have an easy way out. He might end up taking the "L" agree to something unsatisfying just to get his fingers out of the finger trap - in which case we'll know he didn't want a stalemate. But he might not be given the chance to even get that much of a fig leaf, and be stuck against his wishes in this morass for quite a while.
