Hegseth began the Friday morning briefing by berating the press, specifically targeting ABC News and CNN, and maintained a tone of barely concealed contempt throughout.

I wonder if Hegseth is getting chewed out a little, behind the scenes?

Trump famously eschews getting information about things internally from government sources. That's traditionally been how Presidents get their info and find out about the world - they get briefed by the departments in the Executive that study and analyze these things. Trump doesn't like to do that. He likes to a lot of his information from his media diet, certainly more than reading internal reports. Trump pays a lot more attention to how his Administration's operations are being talked about in the press than other Presidents might.

If Hegseth is being criticized by Trump that the war is getting bad press, it's not surprising that he'll be hostile to the press. They're making him look bad to his boss!
