Crops are being left unpicked. Americans do not want those jobs ( understatement
of the year ). This isn't 1933, I don't see any evidence of a mass
migration of American adults flocking to the fields of California, or
Nebraska, or anywhere else,

Hence, the USian move to forced labor. Work requirements for SNAP were introduced in 96. It appears that the two year window before the work requirement kicked in, in the 96 legislation, has been shortened to 3 months. Now we have work requirements for Medicaid too. Keep broadening the range of people who fall under the work requirement, and demanding more work from each of them. I have offered before "Plan Steve" to force retirees and children into the workforce. Of course, it's all dressed up as "personal responsibility", and "the dignity of work", but it's forced labor. #43 proposed a guest worker program, but it was shot down, because it still let brown people into the country. So, forced labor is the only alternative.
