ME’s gov won’t do that.

Almost certainly not. They respect rule of law, at least somewhat. So, any actions they take will likely be through the courts. Problem is, their opponents don't. And make no mistake, at this point the Feds (POTUS, ICE, etc) are the opponents of just about everyone, because they do not respect civil rights and the Constitution. Without that, we are subject to the whim of the leader.

But it would make a powerful statement, and maybe shake people out of their apparently slumbers.
