urging the UK and other nations to join the US in sending ships to the passage.

All of them shall do so. But the ships all have to sail from the bottom of their relevant bath tubs of the world to the Middle East, so it will take some time--and they don't have much fire power. But they CAN "send ships"--just not the ones Spankee refused to build while he was in office starting in Jan 2017.
