I suppose it's just a coincidence that Trump has recently switched his choice of hats from red and white MAGA... to the black and yellow color scheme of the Proud Boys.

I attended a dia de los muertos party this weekend. I placed a picture of my grandmother on the ofrenda. Stiffly posed for the photo, resplendent in her wedding dress, circa 1910, a small bouquet clasped in her hands.
A humble catholic girl, she was a teacher of deaf mute children. Because my grandfather was a Jew, my family was shunned by most of their neighborhood friends, and by associates at the University in Vienna where he taught physics. He did not survive that night, as the Nazis terrorized their neighborhood.
Not long after that night, my father and his elder brother risked execution as they fled conscription in the German army. They made it to the US where eventually both happily joined the Army. My grandmother took refuge with her sister in Lljublana for the duration of the war.
My uncle was disappointed that, despite his desire to be a machine gunner, he was tasked with organizing, translating and decoding hundreds of cases of captured German documents. My Father travelled up Italy with the Army, finally stationed at Nuremberg where he attended to the health of Nazis awaiting trial and execution.
After the war, Dad brought my Grandmother, that kind selfless woman who lost everything in one night, to America where she was amazed by the 'so much everything.
"Yaysoos Maria, das ist a miraahcle," I heard her say so many times.
My grandmother's is but one of millions of similar tales. I know this. Just one of the victims of a country seduced by the hatred and promises of a dictatorial narcissist.
As we told our stories of our relatives images on the oferta , I could clearly imagine what my grandmother would think of the spectre of 'proud boys' terrorizing Americans.
