Hi Banksy,

Stipulating for now that tariffs are just another kind of taxation, don't ProGlibs favor increased taxation?

You assert that tariffs are a "regressive" tax.

I would agree they are a form of consumption tax.

In the European Union, the VAT- value added tax-ranges from 17% to 27% depending upon which country.

VATs are also a form of consumption tax--they are paid by the end user/consumer to the national government.

It would seem tariffs have the advantage as at least it theoretically gives our government some negotiating power in terms of trying to get other countries to reduce their tariffs on the U.S. goods they import.

Since ProGlibs (like yourself) love everything European, do you suggest the U.S. does away with tariffs and impose a VAT?

Why or why not?
