We have not been paid by the U.S.government.
We haven't even gotten a thank-you note from the U.S.government.
Oh, sure it was. When the US embassy staffers were spirited out of Iran, all we heard about at the time, was the role Canada played in the operation. The CIA's role was not declassified for about 30 years, then dramatized in "Argo".
As someone observed years ago, when a couple CIA ops had been blown "we never hear about their really successful ops".
