what the gop understood that dems didnt, is that complex discussions around covid disrupted supply chains, inflation, and the cantillion effect did not have a conservative audience that could understand them. and this continues, with no concept of how tariffs may affect prices, and inventing the word 'groceries' seem sufficiently placating.
you may remember the gop reduction of all economic issues to 'are you better off today'? sure , the parrots may crow about that 1 day egg prices go down, but the in-your-face daily receipts and monthly payments all trend severely up, even for 90% of the lower income gop voters that thought trump was gonna make them rich.
