Why does Trump want to attack Iran?
As I hinted at in a different thread, he has not been able to consistently articulate a specific reason.
At first it was because they were killing protestors (sort of like ICE....). He threatened the Iran regime with punishment if they continued to kill protestors. Well, they continued to kill protestors, nothing happened, so the protests quickly died out.
Then it was because he wanted to destroy their missile program. I think someone realized that was impossible to do through a simple bombing campaign since the missiles are scattered throughout the whole country. Remember back in the 90's when the U.S. was hunting SCUDS in Iraq? That took weeks (if not months) and required a constant presence over Iraq. Iran's missile programs are far more advanced and extensive than the SCUDs in Iraq. Furthermore, SCUDS required a semi-truck trailer to haul them around and fire. Iran has missiles that are much easier to hide and fire. Also, Trump would never be able to easily declare victory. If he did declare victory, all it would take is for Iran to find a dozen missiles hidden in a warehouse somewhere and for them to fire them at Israel and everyone would know Trump's "victory" was a joke.
Then there was some talk about Iran's nuclear program. But that quickly died because Trump already declared victory over Iran's nuclear program. Remember, he "totally obliterated it".
Now Trump's rational is that they will be bombed unless they "negotiate" seriously. What are they negotiating though? Trump never really says.
My guess is that it has been no secret that Netanyahu has always wanted regime change in Iran. In fact that is one of the reasons Netanyahu was against the treaty that eliminated the Iranian nuclear program and put Iran under a huge inspection regime. He was afraid it was going to help legitimize the Iranian regime in the eyes of the world and make regime change much more difficult.
So I think the reason Trump is threatening to bomb Iran is that he is doing Netanyahu's bidding and is working for regime change in Iran.
